There is no single required route. Follow the opening quests, protect your energy and build around the professions you enjoy.

Welcome to Starsand Island

Starsand Island is an open-ended cozy farming sim. You can farm, fish, ranch, explore the Moonlit Forest, craft machines, and get to know the island’s residents at your own pace. Progress is intentionally non-linear, so this guide focuses on a smooth start rather than a single “correct” route.

Quick advice

Start Crafting and Exploration early. The two professions unlock tools and materials that make every other activity easier.

Create Your Character

Choose a character body, then select a starting outfit and customize hair, eyes, brows, lips, face paint, cheeks, eye shadow, and skin tone. Most appearance choices can be changed later at the beauty salon, so you do not need to make a permanent decision on the first screen.

Your starting clothing is added to the wardrobe immediately. Additional outfits come from shops, quests, events, and downloadable content.

Your First Home: Hopeland

You arrive outside the one-room cabin your grandfather left at Hopeland. The plot is overgrown, but it has everything needed to begin: open ground, resources, a cabin, and a worktable.

Follow the opening quest until you unlock:

  • Build Mode for placing and moving structures.
  • The Island Life app for land expansion and property management.
  • Your first profession path and basic crafting recipes.

Clear only the space you need. Spending the whole first day removing every tree and rock burns energy that is better used on quests and early materials.

Controls and Daily Rhythm

| Action | Default control | | --- | --- | | Move | WASD | | Use held tool | Left click | | Interact / pick up | F | | Phone | Tab | | Bag | B | | Journey | J | | Build Mode | C | | Map | M | | Run | Left Shift |

The day ends at 2:00 AM. Passing out causes you to wake with only half of your maximum energy, so leave enough travel time to return home. Sitting on a swing and eating certain foods restore energy during the day.

Choose Your Professions

There are five professions, and you can advance all of them:

  1. Crafting — upgrades tools and creates processing machines.
  2. Exploration — opens resource routes and Moonlit Forest progression.
  3. Farming — focuses on crops, soil, and seasonal production.
  4. Fishing — unlocks rods, bait, fishing zones, and deep-sea systems.
  5. Ranching — develops animal care and farm production.

Crafting and Exploration are the strongest opening pair because each helps clear the other’s progression gates. Farming, Fishing, and Ranching can then grow around the tools and materials you already unlocked.

Energy, Skills and Progression

You begin each rested day with 300 Energy. Tool actions consume energy; movement and conversation do not. Avoid draining the bar completely before a long trip home.

The early quest line unlocks Workpedia, where Starsand points purchase profession skills. New skill rows open as you move from Apprentice through Junior, Intermediate, Senior, and Expert.

Residents and Affection

Talk to residents whenever your route passes them. Daily conversation, favorite gifts, bulletin board requests, returned lost items, and connected quests all raise Affection.

Heart levels unlock gifts, photo invitations, room visits, requests, and eventually the option to live together with eligible residents. The map’s Residents tab is the fastest way to locate someone.

First-Week Checklist

  • Complete the opening quests and unlock Build Mode.
  • Begin Crafting and Exploration.
  • Save common wood, stone, fiber, and ore instead of selling everything.
  • Check the bulletin board each day.
  • Speak to residents while completing errands.
  • Upgrade the tool that supports your favorite activity first.
  • Return home before 2:00 AM.
In short

Follow the opening quest, protect your energy, start Crafting and Exploration, and let the other professions grow naturally around the activities you enjoy.
